MCR Operator

Our West London based client, an international news broadcaster is looking for a Freelance MCR Operator.

You will be reporting to the Senior MCR Manager, and as an MCR Operator your major responsibility will be to monitor and provide first line support to ensure efficiency and smooth running of the MCR area. With Live Content Delivery you will be responsible for the provision of the incoming and outgoing broadcast lines, Satellite or IP feeds for use in studio operations and for our Social Media Team. You are required to liaise with third parties in relation to the resolution and restoration of any live content issues, together with the technical monitoring and resolution of issues on broadcast feeds.

As the primary transmission area for the channels, you will be the first point of call, operating the MCR’s platform monitoring & control desks, ensuring constant checking of the contribution, including the backhaul/downlink, line-up and co-ordination of line, IP and satellite feeds when required, logging any issues and incidents and covering where necessary for any similar operational role within the MCR. Working as part of the MCR team you are responsible for the availability of content delivery to our worldwide distribution. The role is on a shift basis which will also include nights.

Responsibilities

  • Develop knowledge and understanding to a level where basic customer enquiries can be effectively dealt with.
  • Develop an understanding of available monitoring tools and use them to effectively analyse content.
  • Understand the MCR control systems and how to use them effectively.
  • Checking the integrity of a circuit or satellite feed to ensure agreed standards are met.
  • Ensure content is available at the agreed time, to the agreed technical standards and remains available for the required duration.
  • Proactively seek learning opportunities to further develop skills.
  • Ensure clear and comprehensive logging and reporting of incidents.
  • Timely escalation of incidents to senior members of the team or support as appropriate.
  • Compliance with all Health and Safety requirements Fault-finding, resolving or escalating as appropriate for all broadcast channels within the operation facilities.
  • Compiling & issuing incident reports to internal & external customers in detail.
  • Ensuring the technical compliance of all material to Ofcom requirements.
  • Provide and keep support documentation up to date.
  • Adopt best practice regarding streaming media and broadcast technologies.
  • Liaise with other departments and suppliers. 
  • Monitor the global acquisition and distribution of signals.
  • Provide broadcast quality assurance on all content whether live or file based.

 

Requirements

  • Experience in Broadcast MCR, associated technologies, workflows, and broadcast standards.
  • Knowledge of Broadcast Encoding techniques and high-level fault analysis.
  • Awareness of current encoding technologies.
  • Networking and Routing.
  • Satellite Communications.
  • Cerebrum MCR workflows
  • SKYPE TX Workflow
  • TVU Workflow
  • Experience working in a live broadcast environment, and confident in working under pressure to resolve issues during live broadcasts.
